Trimlight vs JellyFish Lighting: What Each One Publishes

Independent guide · Updated September 10, 2026

Trimlight publishes a lower starting price, $18 per linear foot installed against JellyFish's $25, and the stronger published parts warranty, lifetime on components rated to 50,000 hours. JellyFish publishes the more complete project picture, including a $3,000 to $6,000 typical total, a $4,600 average, and a $650 to $850 controller that drives 263 feet. Both ranges top out at $35 per foot, so on a complex roofline the price difference can vanish entirely, and the decision usually comes down to the local dealer rather than the brand.

On price, the gap is at the bottom of the range, not the top

Trimlight starts seven dollars a foot lower, which on a 150-foot roofline is a bit over a thousand dollars. That is a real difference and worth quoting both for. But both ranges end at $35, and the top of a range is where complex houses land, so the further your roofline is from a simple single-story front elevation, the more the two brands converge.

Trimlight is also the only one of the pair publishing a worked example, 150 feet at $25 per foot for roughly $3,750, which is a more honest anchor than a range endpoint. JellyFish's contribution is the other half of the picture: a typical project total and a stated average, which tells you what real customers spend rather than what the rate card allows.

On warranty, Trimlight publishes more and gives more, with strings

Trimlight's lifetime parts warranty on components rated to 50,000 hours is the strongest published coverage of the four national brands, and it names what it covers: bulbs, light strings, diodes, and the aluminum finish against chipping, peeling, flaking and blistering. It also names its conditions, which is the part that decides whether it is worth what it sounds like. Coverage goes to the original purchaser and does not transfer when you sell, and registration inside 30 days is required, with the company warning that an incomplete form can invalidate a later claim.

JellyFish's public FAQ lists the warranty as a question but does not render an answer as text on the page, and terms cited by dealers vary. We are not going to publish a number for it on that basis. What this means practically is that with Trimlight you can read the terms before you talk to anyone, and with JellyFish you have to get them in writing on your own quote. Do that either way.

The controller question only JellyFish answers

JellyFish publishes $650 to $850 for the controller and power supply, and the more important number alongside it: 263 feet per controller, extending in the same increments to a 2,400 foot system maximum. Trimlight does not publish a controller price.

That disclosure is worth something on a large house. It tells you in advance that your cost curve steps at a known footage rather than sloping smoothly, and it lets you ask a specific question before the quote arrives. With Trimlight you have to ask the dealer how many controllers your run needs and what they cost. It is a fair question and any good dealer answers it in a sentence, but you have to know to ask.

What actually decides it

Both are mature addressable-diode systems in extruded channel, both are installed by independent local dealers rather than by the manufacturer, and both will look substantially the same on your house at night. When two products are this close, the variable that carries the outcome is the crew.

So ask both bidders the same five questions and compare the answers rather than the brands. What footage did you measure and which elevations does it cover. What is your labor warranty in years, separate from the manufacturer's parts warranty. Where is the power coming from, and is an electrician in this price. How many controllers or power supplies are included. And what does a service call in year four cost me. The bidder who answers all five in writing is usually the right choice regardless of which logo is on the quote.

Common questions

Which is cheaper, Trimlight or JellyFish?

Trimlight, on published starting prices: $18 per linear foot installed against $25. Both ranges top out at $35, so the advantage narrows as your roofline gets more complex and can disappear on a steep or multi-story house. Quote both on your actual measured footage rather than deciding from the starting numbers.

Which has the better warranty?

Trimlight, on what is published. It states a lifetime product warranty on components rated to 50,000 hours and names exactly what it covers. Two conditions matter: it is non-transferable to a future owner and requires registration within 30 days. JellyFish's public FAQ does not render its warranty terms as text, so ask for them in writing on your quote. In both cases labor is set by the dealer, not the brand.

Do Trimlight and JellyFish look different on the house?

Not meaningfully at night. Both are individually addressable diodes seated in extruded aluminum channel mounted under the drip edge or on the fascia, and both disappear into the trim line in daylight when installed properly. Daytime appearance depends far more on whether the channel color was matched to your fascia and how cleanly it was routed than on which brand supplied it, which makes it an installer question rather than a brand question.

Can I get the same result without either brand?

Yes. Both are dealer-installed architectural channel systems, and independent installers build the same category of system with addressable diodes, app control and hidden channel. We install brand-agnostic systems ourselves and are a dealer for neither, so take that with the appropriate salt, but the useful point stands: price the result you want against three bidders and let the warranty terms and the crew decide it.
